Vaughan PVA - Serving paralyzed veterans of Illinois

Washington D.C Advocacy Trip

This past week, nearly 100 advocates from the Paralyzed Veterans of America visited Congressional legislators and staff members from across the nation with the theme “Pushing Access Forward”. This was the first year since the pandemic started that PVA members visited Capitol Hill to address the needs in PVA’s 2023 Policy Priorities to both new and reelected members of the 118th Congress.

For more than 75 years, PVA has been the nation’s premier nonprofit of choice for disabled veterans, their families, and caregivers-has led the fight for accessibility and provided a full circle of support from the point of injury or diagnosis to all of life’s milestones.

This year the Vaughan Chapter met with all 19 offices in Congress and brought forth the importance of supporting the following PVA Policy Priorities:

  • Protect Access to VA’s Specialized Health Care Services
  • Expand Access to VA Long-Term Services and Supports
  • Improve VA Benefits and Health Care Services for Paralyzed Veterans and their Survivors
  • Protect the Civil Rights of People with Disabilities
  • Improve Access to Social Security Benefits
  • Increase Employment Prospects for Veterans with Disabilities

The PVA Journey to improve paralyzed veterans’ lives won’t end with the Congressional visits last week. It continues daily at home and in the community with talking, texting, messaging, emailing, writing, phone calls, meetings, and making contact with ordinary people such as yourselves, family, colleagues, friends, and neighbors regarding these six areas of need. We ask that you help us make an impact by joining our team and learning more about how you can help us continue to make all the difference over these next two years.
