Each year more than 500 novice and experienced athletes meet for a week of archery, swimming, weightlifting, basketball, quad rugby and more. It's the National Veterans Wheelchair Games, the largest annual wheelchair sports competition of its kind in the world.
This year is the 42nd annual National Vetrans Wheelchair games and is hosted in Portland Oregon July 4-9. Participants are not required to have a COVID vaccine. Finally, all waivers will be completed at the event and there is no need to mail them in ahead of time.
Throughout the week, veterans realize their abilities and potential while enjoying the spirit of healthy activity and fellowship. Registration is open now and will close on April 5th. If there are any questions about the registration process; please email: "NVWGregistration@pva.org"
The Vaughan Vets Team is composed of Vaughan PVA members who qualify to participate in the National Veterans Wheelchair Games. The largest annual wheelchair sports competition in the world, this event offers 17 different sports to Veterans, who use wheelchairs due to spinal cord injuries, amputations and neurological diseases and are eligible to receive care at a VA medical facility.
The Games also provide opportunities for newly disabled veterans to gain sports skills and be exposed to other wheelchair athletes. Percentage of funding for sports and events will vary depending on availability of funds and participation.
